Paul Royer Michael Sarr CS 150 IEEE CSUB Student Branch Department of Computer & Electrical Engineering & Computer Science California State University, Bakersfield Welcome to the CEE/CS Department! The Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (CEE/CS) at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) offers three Bachelor of Science degree programs in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. These degrees are directly applicable to the expanding computer and electrical engineering industries. The department is housed in the third floor of the Science III building and also shares laboratory space in Science II and the Engineering Complex. Our laboratory facilities are up-to-date and our program offers a high degree of student-faculty interaction. Our faculty are research and grant active and there is a good opportunity for undergraduate students to assist in faculty research. The Computer Science degree program at CSUB started in Fall 1985. The computing field covers areas such as hardware drivers and system software, networking, computer security / cybersecurity, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, database systems, application software, software engineering, bioinformatics, web design and online commerce. The Computer Science program is not accredited by ABET, but all degree programs at CSUB are regionally accredited by WSCUC (formerly WASC). The Computer Science degree offers three concentrations / tracks: Computer Science - Traditional (CS): This track follows the curricular standards set by ACM and IEEE for computer science programs. It balances theory, hardware, and software concepts, with a wide range of potential careers in computing. Computer Information Systems (CIS): This track is for those who wish to study primarily the software portion of computer science. CIS students also focus more on human-computer interactions and have the opportunity to either minor in another discipline or take more elective courses in computer science. Information Security (IS): This track is for those who wish to specialize in cybersecurity careers. It has similar focuses on theoretical and software concepts as the CS track, but a lighter focus on hardware. IS students also pair their technology core with a global intelligence and national security cognate to understand the geopolitical issues surrounding cybersecurity. The Computer Engineering (CE) degree program at CSUB started in Fall 2011. It is concerned with topics such as analog and digital circuit design, embedded controllers, computer hardware, system software, computer system design, computer networks, robotics and control system design, image processing, computer vision, and graphics. The degree follows the curricular standards set by IEEE and ACM for computer engineering programs. The Computer Engineering (B.S.) program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org , under the General Criteria and the Program Criteria for Electrical, Computer, Communications, Telecommunication(s) and Similarly Named Engineering Programs. The Electrical Engineering (EE) degree program at CSUB started in Fall 2012. We currently offer the electrical engineering core along with advanced electives such as wireless communication and networks, digital signal processing, image processing, power systems, electrical machinery, and power systems with renewable energy. The Electrical Engineering (B.S.) program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org , under the General Criteria and the Program Criteria for Electrical, Computer, Communications, Telecommunication(s) and Similarly Named Engineering Programs. Collaboration and interactions between students in our degree programs is also encouraged. We currently have two active student clubs within the department: the Computer Science and Engineering club and the IEEE Student Branch. The campus also has a Society of Women Engineers (SWE) club. These clubs host a variety of activities for the benefit of CSUB students, such as circuitry workshops, speakers from industry, career development workshops, and the annual Senior Design Expo.
